STU and Sanlam Life Insurance Ghana Limited Partner to Secure Student Welfare

In a significant stride towards enhancing student welfare, Sunyani Technical University (STU) has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Sanlam Ghana. This milestone collaboration introduces a comprehensive insurance coverage scheme, providing students and their guardians with financial protection in the event of *death or accidents resulting in permanent disability.

As the academic year advances, students and their families can take solace in the fact that STU has proactively taken measures to safeguard their financial interests during challenging times. This strategic alliance between Sunyani Technical University and Sanlam Life Insurance Ghana Limited underscores the institution's unwavering dedication to its students' well-being, marking a pivotal moment in the university's history.

On the 6th of October 2023, STU Management, in conjunction with the Student Representative Council (SRC), officially signed a mutually beneficial group education policy to enhance students' welfare and security.

Sanlam Life Insurance Ghana Limited, led by their Managing Director and CEO, Tawiah Ben-Ahmed, presented a customized group welfare assurance benefits package designed to improve the livelihoods, loyalty, and motivation of students.

The university delegation at the signing ceremony was led by the Vice-Chancellor, Ing. The SRC President and his executives also attended.

During his address at the signing, MD/CEO of Sanlam Insurance emphasized that while many insurance companies primarily focus on the general public, it is equally important to consider the welfare of students.

This insurance policy provides life and disability assurance coverage as additional benefits for students.

Scope of Benefits:

Premium per year: 20 Ghana Cedis per student, covered by the university via student school fees.

The policy cover will cater for unpaid tuition fees and future fees for a student in the unfortunate event of a parent or sponsoring guardian's death or permanent disability. Maintenance allowance for student linked to the death or permanent disability of parents or sponsoring guardians - 500 Ghana cedis per semester to student.

In the event of a student's death, a payment of 1,000 Ghana Cedis to the family. Coverage of accidental injuries during internships and attachments with a payment of up to 3,000 Ghana Cedis to the student.

In addition to these benefits, other proposals including entrepreneurship and seminar training were discussed.

Sanlam Life Insurance Ghana Ltd. has pledged to ensure the proper welfare of students, an assurance welcomed by the Dean of Students and SRC, who facilitated this partnership. Further discussions on proposed benefits and ongoing collaborations are anticipated in the future, as both parties remain committed to the holistic well-being of STU students.
