Sunyani Technical University (STU) has received a US$40,000 cheque from Newmont Ahafo North in support of the upcoming GHATUSA Games and the development of sports infrastructure at the University.
The cheque was officially presented during an engagement held on 24 September 2026, when a delegation from STU visited Newmont Ahafo North.
The support forms part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between the University and Newmont Ahafo North while promoting sustainable development through sports and community-focused initiatives.
The engagement provided an opportunity for both institutions to reaffirm their commitment to building a partnership that delivers sustainable impact. The collaboration also reflects Newmont’s core values of Be Always Safe, Care Deeply, Deliver Responsibly and Improve Daily.
During the engagement, Mr. Charles Bissue, General Manager of Newmont Ahafo North, stressed the importance of ensuring that the investment delivers value well beyond the Games, particularly through proper maintenance and adherence to safety standards.
“For us, this support goes beyond the GHATUSA Games. What is equally important is how the facilities are maintained, protected and used safely to ensure that the investment continues to serve students and the wider community for many years. We value our relationship with Sunyani Technical University and look forward to strengthening the collaboration between our two institutions.”

Madam Abena Ankomah Acheampomaa, Lead, Communities and Social Performance, was also acknowledged for the important role she played in facilitating the donation and strengthening the engagement between Newmont Ahafo North and the University.
The engagement further reaffirmed the shared commitment of both institutions to creating sustainable impact through sports and community development. The partnership also reflects Newmont’s values of Be Always Safe, Care Deeply, Deliver Responsibly and Improve Daily.
The Registrar of STU, Mr. Stephen Yeboah, reaffirmed the University’s commitment to sustaining the partnership, stating:
“We are confident that this will grow into a long-term and mutually beneficial partnership between STU and Newmont Ahafo North.”
STU emphasised that the investment should create benefits beyond the GHATUSA Games by contributing to sports facilities that will serve students and the wider University community over the long term.
The University therefore reaffirmed its commitment to the proper maintenance, protection and sustainable management of the facilities to ensure that the investment continues to benefit both current and future generations of students.

The University remains committed to ensuring that the support is responsibly utilised to deliver lasting value and contribute to the successful organisation of the GHATUSA Games, as well as the long-term development of sports at STU.
The STU delegation was led by the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Ing.
