UMES presents 18 laptops to Sunyani Technical University

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) has presented 18 laptop computers and their accessories to the Sunyani Technical University. This action has boosted the existing partnership between the two universities.

Dr. Kawanda McCarthy Williams, the Assistant Dean for Experiential Education of UMESs School of Pharmacy and Health Professions, made the presentation on behalf of her university last Wednesday as part of a ten-day visit to Ghana by some students and staff of UMES.

The 14-member delegation has been in Ghana since Wednesday January 8, 2025, to undertake some research activities, engage in community outreach on maternal health, strengthen the bond between UMES and STU, and have some fun.

Dr. Kawanda McCarthy Williams, who is leading the delegation, said at a meeting with STU Management in Sunyani last Wednesday that students of UMES are always happy to visit Ghana and STU, and that explains why they are in the country for the second time.

“The students came back to us after our first visit and asked: “Are you going back to Ghana”, and so we say a big thank you for your excellent reception whenever we are here and so we’re delighted to return to Ghana, and we look forward to further collaboration. We are in high anticipation of hosting STU students in the US soon”, she added.

The Vice-Chancellor of STU, Ing. Professor Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah thanked UMES for its kind gesture and recounted the long-standing warm relationship between the two institutions.

“As we speak, we have a very strong bond between the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and the Sunyani Technical University. Very soon, as part of the partnership, you will also see STU students coming to the US. We have our Pharmacy Department students where the Articulation Agreement that we signed expects some students to come and join the PharmD programme”, the Vice-Chancellor said.

Prof. Jones Lewis Arthur, the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology, who chaired the meeting, received the laptop computers on behalf of STU.

Earlier, Prof. Arthur made a PowerPoint presentation about the STU to the visiting team.

The Registrar, Samuel Ankama Obour and Thomas Kwafo, the Director of Finance were among those who were part of the meeting.
