STU Management Committee Engages Sunyani East Municipal Chief Executive on Key Development Priorities

A high-level delegation from the Management Committee of Sunyani Technical University (STU) has paid a courtesy and working visit to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Sunyani East Municipality to deepen institutional collaboration and discuss critical development matters affecting the University. The engagement aligns with STU’s strategic vision of fostering strong local partnerships to enhance academic excellence and improve campus infrastructure.

The visit also offered an opportunity for STU Management to officially congratulate the MCE on his appointment and commend him for his impactful leadership and visible progress made in the Municipality since assuming office.

During the discussion, the University Management outlined key concerns requiring urgent intervention from the Municipal Assembly:

Management appealed for the Assembly’s support in facilitating the completion of the AstroTurf project on campus, which has stalled for some time. The facility forms a major component of the University’s preparations toward hosting the prestigious 2027 Ghana Technical Universities Sports Association (GHATUSA) Games. The team further requested assistance in constructing a new tartan track to boost sports training and competition standards on campus.

Management expressed deep concern over the rising rate of land encroachment on university property and called on the Assembly to intervene. They appealed for enforcement action against illegal developers and assistance to reclaim affected parcels of land, which are earmarked for future infrastructural expansion.

The Management Committee raised alarm over the landfill site situated behind the GETFund Hostel, stressing its environmental and health hazards. They appealed for the sanitation challenge to be urgently addressed as it affects the well-being of students and staff, as well as the general learning environment.

The MCE warmly acknowledged the University’s concerns and assured Management of his administration’s full cooperation. He committed to engaging the contractor responsible for the AstroTurf project, expressing optimism that once the Common Fund is released, the facility would be completed by 2026.

On the issue of land encroachment, the MCE pledged to deploy a Physical Planning Engineer to conduct an immediate assessment for appropriate action. He condemned unauthorized occupation of state lands and assured firm measures to protect STU’s property.

Addressing the landfill problem, the MCE announced that waste will soon be redirected to the Wawasua landfill site, assuring that the current dumpsite behind the hostel will cease operation by January 2026.

STU Management expressed appreciation to the MCE for his assurances and reiterated the University’s commitment to working closely with the Assembly in the interest of sustainable development, campus safety, and improved learning conditions for the entire University community.
