MTTD sensitises STU community on Traffic Tech Technology

The Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service has sensitised the Sunyani Technical University (STU) community on the Traffic Tech system to promote road safety and compliance with traffic regulations.

The programme, held on October 22, 2026, brought together Deans, Heads of Departments, Directors, Lecturers, staff and students, alongside representatives of the MTTD, National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) and National Insurance Commission (NIC).

A representative of the MTTD’s Public Relations Office outlined measures to strengthen traffic law enforcement and urged participants to promote responsible road use in their communities.

Participants were briefed on traffic offences and their corresponding penalties, as well as the use of mobile, in-car and stationary cameras to monitor road users. They were also informed that charges would apply only when the traffic monitoring systems were operational.

The MTTD further advised prospective vehicle buyers to dial \*220# to check whether a vehicle’s previous owner had outstanding obligations, helping them avoid inheriting unpaid fines or liabilities.

Drivers were also encouraged to memorise their licence numbers to facilitate identification under the new system.

The programme forms part of efforts to combine road safety education with technology-driven enforcement to improve compliance and reduce road accidents.
