First year students undergo medical examination

First year students of the Sunyani Technical University (STU) are currently undergoing a series of medical examinations as part of their admission process.

The medical examination process, which started on Monday March 21, 2022, will last for a week to ensure that all freshers are well captured.

The STU Clinic is fully equipped for the exercise which covers Physical Examination such as Blood Pressure, Pulse, Temperature, Weight, Vision and Hearing as well as Laboratory Tests on Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Sickling and Chest X-ray.

The Medical Director of the Clinic, Dr. Vera Achiaa Darko, explained that the exercise will go a long way to help provide special care to students who require medial assistance to thrive well in the academic environment.

“We also want to determine students have chronic illnesses to help us better manage their health so that their conditions don’t deteriorate…. Besides, some students are even not aware of certain medical conditions they have and so through the screening, it will enable to us identify such cases and better manage them, going forward”, she said.

According to Dr. Achiaa Darko, each student will be given feedback on the outcome of their medical screening so that they would be in a better position to take the necessary precautionary measures as may be prescribed.

One of the students, Abigail Mensah of the Hospitality Department said she was happy to have undergone the test.

“I only knew of my BP, weight and a few things about my health but thanks to this exercise, I have a better appreciation of my health, especially in relations to my vision, pulse, Hepatitis B and C statuses and all that”, she added.
